Growing in color

Our story

I am often asked what got me interested in gardening, what is my story of the how and why. Well, I have two VERY different experiences in my life that shaped me into the grower that I am today. First off, my grandmother on my mom's side was the president of the Dallas Garden Club back in 70's and who had the most amazing side yard of peony, iris, perennials and cultivars that she had brought back with her from her travels overseas. She  was tremendously talented in both growing and in the the floral arts - one area being Ikebana - Japanese floral art. This experience was very formal and curated. On the other hand - my father's  parents  were more like homesteaders in their gardening. They had a large vegetable garden and grew most of their fruits and vegetables to eat fresh in the summers and to can for the winter. One of my  fondest memories was when it was time to start preparing dinner - she would give me a bucket and tell me what she needed me to go pick from the garden. I loved everything about those times - helping them plant, harvest, shuck, snap, dig, pick and can.  Both of these experiences are the basis for my love and fascination of gardening.

I have always been an avid gardener but it was not until early 2019 that I asked my folks if I could till up a little bit of a pasture on our family's working horse and cattle ranch to grow a ‘few’  flowers.  Well, that pretty quickly turned into close to 2 acres that are now the current flower farm.
